Live Tuning! - bootmod3 CustomROM V2 and Map Editor

We’ve expanded on the basic Live Adjust feature we released in CustomROM V1 that enabled end users to easily switch map slots from the app, use a slider to adjust ethanol content and override burble settings, all without re-flashing the vehicle, in real-time. These features “Live Tuned” only a handful of tables.

CustomROM V2 provides the bootmod3 Map Editor with the ability to Live Tune any of the close to 7000 tables in the Map Editor for any given ROM (DME software version), including our custom tables provided in CustomROM itself.

To begin Live Tuning on a given vehicle follow these steps:

  • Register as an authorized bootmod3 tuner and obtain access to the Map Editor

  • DME must be flashed with a bootmod3 CustomROM V2 enabled map

  • Navigate to the bootmod3 Map Editor and open a map matching the ROM version currently on the DME

    • NOTE: If a map is opened in the editor whose ROM version doesn’t match the flashed map’s ROM version, pressing on ‘live commit’ will display an error and not allow the changes to be live tuned due to ROM version mismatch

  • Start bootmod3 OBD Agent (or app) to connect your laptop to the vehicle

  • Click on “Enable Live Tuning” in the top menu bar

  • Navigate to any table in the map editor and you’ll notice the ‘send to DME' red button go active and it can be clicked to apply all table changes to the DME in real-time without reflashing.

  • As long as you don’t use the ‘commit’ button, you can use the ‘undo’ button to get the original values back in the table and click on ‘send to dme’ again to rewrite the changes previously sent

  • You can use the built-in dashboard in the map editor to datalog and make further updates to any tables required.

  • Once satisfied with the changes, you can commit changes to each of the tables, save them, and then proceed to finally flash the DME with them to make them persist across ignition cycles as with any other map

NOTE: Changes to the DME are only active for the duration of the ignition cycle. If you turn ignition off and power to the DME is cut, the live committed changes to the DME are reverted and the map goes back to its previously flashed settings.
